Would it be a bad idea to buy a salvage car? i went to a used car place, and was looking at a car that was not for sale. the man who worked there cam out and said it was actually his car, but it was a salvaged car. he said it was a fixed car, and that it drove fine. only that the airbags were missing. it was a totally new car, but the problem was what i mentioned. would it be bad to buy it?
the man selling it was actually a mechanic. hes the one who said it was all fixed that his shop had done it himself.. but i figured it was too good to be true :[

Some finance companies will not finance a salvage car, and many insurance companies will not insure a salvage car. A car without airbags will be very difficult to insure, because it’s a major safety feature. And if you decide to hide the missing airbags from your insurance company, and you get into an accident and are injured, your insurance company will likely say “You disabled a critical safety feature, we will not cover your injuries.” and then you’re f**ked.
Contact your insurance agent BEFORE purchasing the car. Make sure they know all about the salvage title and missing air bags before you purchase it.

Not a good idea.It means the prior damage was higher than the value of the car.Unless you can get it super cheap, I’d pass on it.

i wouldn’t touch it. but if you do be sure and have a mechanic check it out top to bottom. find out the cost of having air bags installed. bet it will be a lot

The state issued a vehicle a salvage title if it has been considered a total loss. This could be anything from being wrecked where the cost to repair exceeded the reasonable value of the vehicle. It could have been in a flood, stripped, any number of things. I would steer clear of any salvage title vehicles as they usually have serious problems over time.

And since it’s his car and not the dealerships if he sells the car to you and doesn’t go through the dealership it’s called curbing. Which is not a good idea. Plus a salvage car equals salvage title and problems! It’s unsafe in my book.
