I am looking at a car with hail damage as well (Ford Fusion) the process is pretty easy..if you win the auction you go to your local DMV and go from their. If it has a salvaged title you have to get the car inspected, which could take up to a month!!

A salvage title is not given to a vehicle with “slight” damage. I would avoid a salvage title vehicle because of the potential problems with the car and just getting it registered and insured.

It is registered as a salvaged vehicle. Which means it has been in an accident. More than the hood was damaged to be sure. But they are suppose to make it road worthy, so it is inspected before it gets it roadworthy title making it available for resale.

The title will always say salvaged vehicle. Body damage will not affect the ability to register it.

Looks like “Minimal Patience” knows his stuff,i tend to agree with his damn good info..and if it is a salvaged title,in my wisdom it is that way due to the cost / damages estimate was way the hell up there near the NADA value,..and NADA Guides.com is a free way to get The only official price guide that the sales of auto and truck persons, including any lending institution really trusts and uses. But i also want to state,if it has hail damage all over the topside of the cars front to rear, Hot glue gun and several small clear suction cups glued over fresh squirt of Hot Glue placed in the exact middle of each hail dent, using a small slide hammer type dent puller with a short course threaded screw you merely self tap into the clear suction cup,Pop & the hail dent is gone,be careful not to scratch the paint with to long of a screw at the end of the dent puller :) .it really really will totally pop out even hail dent on the curved fender type dents at a bend if you allow the suction cups to fully dry onto the hot glue gun squirt. no bullshit!,did it to take out 50-60 bad hail dents on a BMW 525,black,and even at an angled glance using this easy breezy tech trick, you wont even see where the hail dent was! totally time consuming, but you wont need to remove the headliner to push out hail dents from the underside! Trust that this works, try this tried and proven easiest trick that really works.

If it’s a salvage title then you just register it like normal. If it’s a certificate then you will have to go to the county clerk’s office and fill out some paperwork describing what was fixed. If it’s just hail damage then they can explain what to do. Then the vehicle will have to be inspected anyway.

Call your local county clerk and they’ll give you all the details.

I’m in Tennessee and haven’t had to do that, but seen a lot of people at the clerk’s office doing it. A lot of cars have been totaled out over here because of hail damage. A LOT.
