Question by : How do I get rid of a wrecked car in California with no title?
A couple of weeks ago I purchased a car from a local police auction. It was unbelievably in pretty good shape it just needed a good detailing and maybe a tuneup. Unfortunately, an hour after I bought it, someone hit the car from behind while it was parked outside my home. I went to the DMV to register it. They told me that the previous owner had written a bad check in the amount of $ 391, told me that as the new owner I would be responsible for $ 191of that and to bring the registration current would be another $ 250. In the meantime, the car was totaled and the guy that hit has no insurance. I still need a car. I do feel comfortable riding myself and my small children around in a salvaged vehicle. I cannot afford to buy another car and spend almost $ 450 to register a car I don’t plan to use. Is it possible to junk this car without the title.?
