You buy a salvage car, you have to pay sales tax. Who are you kidding? The government always gets their money.

A previous salvage title costs the same. To get a salvage to be a previous salvage it costs $ 75 and you have to call them to come inspect the car and make sure its roadworthy after repairs.
Insurance is higher for previous salvage cars. And they pay FAR less than retail if you happen to total it.
